Week 9 of my Times To Treasure series has arrived! It’s getting harder and harder now to find new and exciting things to do – and to enjoy those things when you have an extremely grumpy baby!
Last week had been a loooong week, with little sleep due to Alfie being unsettled at night again. He surprised us though by laying in until 8am Saturday morning! Once we were all up and ready, we ventured into town to do a bit of Christmas shopping. Unfortunately we didn’t get anything (mainly because of my bah-humbug husband who questioned everything I wanted to buy!)
We did get Alfie some new slippers though that are very cute!
Daddy then took Alfie to Tropical Wings, our local zoo, in the afternoon. I had some clearing up to tackle and it’s definitely easier to do without the boys in the house! So they spent a few hours there. It’s very handy to have an annual pass as we can just pop in as and when we have a spare hour to kill.
On Sunday we planned to spend the day at Colchester Zoo. We have annual passes here as well but haven’t been for a few weeks due to other things going on.
I was actually going to review the zoo today, however our day didn’t exactly go to plan.
We arrived about 10.30, and went straight into the soft play. We had never used it before, and I was so impressed! There were two parts, one for older children and one for younger children. We took Alfie to the younger part and he had a brilliant time.
The thing I really liked were the staff that were watching both areas. They were visible at all times should you need assistance and because there was someone watching at all times, it meant no big kids entered the toddler area. They are obviously not a substitute for watching your own kids though!
Unfortunately as we left the soft play, Alfie fell over on the concrete and scrapped his head! He was really brave and although he cried, he didn’t make too much of a fuss. We did pop to the first aid site just to get his graze cleaned as it was bleeding quite a bit. The guest service area was brilliant. They were extremely helpful and we only waited a few minutes for a first aider. She cleaned Alfie up, filled out an accident report and we were on our way within 10 minutes.
The day kind of goes downhill from there! Alfie turned a bit grouchy, he wasn’t too interested at the animals and other than lunch, he moaned about everything! He wanted to walk everywhere but the ground is uneven in places, so we were a bit wary after his fall. I carried him in the Connecta for a while and he clearly wanted to sleep, but just refused!
We walked around for a bit and looked at lots of animals. Alfie loved the elephants and was waving at them in the distance.
We didn’t make it much further than the elephants as Alfie was just so grouchy. A combination of his bump on the head and no nap meant we had one unhappy baby!
Fortunately because we have passes, we weren’t that bothered at having to leave earlier than planned as we can just go back another time. Alfie typically fell straight asleep in the car so clearly needed it!
Hopefully next week will be less uneventful and more fun.
