Times to Treasure – Week 3

After a busy couple of weeks, we decided to have a bit of chill time this weekend!  As much as I think it’s important to spend some quality time with Alfie, I think it’s equally important to relax.

We didn’t make any firm plans for Saturday, which was lovely as it meant we could have a lie in!  Of course, when you have a child there is no such thing, so we were up at 6am with a baby full of beans and rearing to go!

We had a lazy morning, taking our time to get up and ready and then went to visit my parents.  I hadn’t had a chance to have a proper catch up with them since I returned to work, so it was nice for us to catch up and for Alfie to see his grandparents.  My mum had planned a bbq, but in typical British fashion, it rained! So we just had some lunch indoors.  Alfie loves going to my parents house as they have a wonderful garden (as seen in my posts about Alfie’s birthday party and my baby shower) so it’s great to see him exploring.  I often feel guilty we don’t have a garden, so it’s fab to see Alfie getting out and about when he can.

We then went home and did a few chores, sorted out those jobs that always get put off and then had a nice chilled evening in front of the TV watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

On Sunday, we met up with one of my oldest, bestest friends from school!  It’s always difficult to get together since we live in different places, and both have such busy lives, but when we do, it’s like we’ve never been apart.  It’s one of the best things about our friendship.

Unfortunately the weather was still not brilliant, so we went to a local cafe.  It been recommended to me by a few local mums as being perfect for a child-friendly brunch, so we thought we’d check it out!

The actual cafe was lovely and big, and there was a brilliant play area for the kids.  We let Alfie loose and it was great to be able to enjoy our food, knowing he could have fun and not get into any trouble!  There was a lovely play kitchen that Alfie couldn’t get enough of as well as a variety of other toys for him to play with.

We ordered some brunch – pancakes for me, English breakfast for Craig and scrambled egg on an English muffin for Alfie!  The food was ok – it wasn’t brilliant which was a shame after such a good recommendation.

It was a nice cafe and I would go back again to try it for lunch, but I was a little disappointed by our first impressions.

After we’d finished, we went to my parents (again!) for the family bbq!  The weather was still a little chilly, but there was no rain at least.  We sat outside under their lovely pavillion with the heater on so it was actually quite toasty!  It was great to catch up with the family and Alfie had fun playing with his cousins and the dogs.

Unusually for me, I didn’t take a million photos this weekend – in fact the only one I have is this selfie of Alfie and Daddy!  We were having too much fun to take photos 🙂

It was great to finally have such a relaxed weekend, where we still managed to get out and about, but it wasn’t jammed packed! Often I feel exhausted on Monday morning after our weekend adventures, so it was nice to feel (kind of) rested for once.

These were my #timestotreasure moments this weekend – please do pop over to Instagram and join our community and share your precious moments.  I love seeing what you all get up to!

I will still be sharing your photos in my “Your #timestotreasure” blog post, but will be doing it monthly rather than weekly.  But please do keep sharing, I’m loving building this little community 🙂

  1. Did you go to the Peapod Cafe?? If so, I actually thought the opposite of you, that the food was excellent but the play area not so good, ha!! It is nice to have somewhere where they can play while you eat though. I’d definitely go back.

  2. Hi Abi, it sounds as if you had a perfect weekend (apart from the weather). It’s always nice to slow life down a touch and catch up with friends and family. It’s a shame that first impressions of the food in the cafe wasn’t too good. Maybe next time.

  3. It’s always nice to have a weekend with no plans and time to relax. Shame the weather ruined the BBQ plans first time around, at least you finally had it. x #marvmondays

  4. What a lovely weekend! My favourite weekends are the ones where we have no plans and take it easy a little. As much as I love getting out and about with the little ones (I hate sitting still!), my favourite type of weekends are the ones like these where we spend time at home together and catch up with family, pure bliss 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays.
