Times to Treasure: January 2018

I started doing my Times to Treasure posts last year, and really enjoyed doing them as it’s lovely to look back and see what we got up to every month. I got a little bit lax towards the end of the year and think I missed the last two (possibly three?!) posts. But I’m excited this year to keep it up and do a post every month to look back on what we’ve done as a family.

We have lots to look forward to this year – starting with the arrival of our second baby boy. We are currently sitting around waiting for him to join our family and we couldn’t be more excited! I also hope that once the baby is here we can start sorting the house out a bit as we haven’t been able to do much since we moved in due to lack of time and money!  Alfie starts school next year, which means we’ll be picking schools this year for him. I’m excited to see how he is going to change and grow once he’s a big brother. He seems to learn so much every day that I’m intrigued to see what he’s going to learn next.  We also have numerous weddings, christenings and birthdays throughout the year to look forward to, including Craig’s 30th!

So that’s the year ahead – but what have we been up to this year so far? Well mostly it’s been baby prep! We had a very chilled New Years and was in bed by 10pm (I know, we’re old ?) but it meant we were up early with no hangovers and could enjoy the day.  Not that we did very much, but it was nice to not do anything as we were straight back to work on Tuesday.

I spent the first 2 weeks of January finishing up at work which was hard to be honest, but I was glad to get it over and done with. I had a very lovely send off from the team at work and was looking forward to spending the next few weeks sorting it everything I still needed to do for the new arrival!

My lovely friends also threw me a baby shower!  I had a brilliant one with Alfie that I organised myself, but I didn’t think it was the “done thing” to have one with your second. However, my friends didn’t agree and organised a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate the impending arrival of Baby Jones No.2. It was wonderful and felt lovely to be surrounded by my family and friends who were excited to celebrate the arrival of our new baby boy.

Most of this month has been spent preparing for the baby. This means trips to IKEA, hours spent trawling the internet for wallpaper and paint, and then actually decorating and building the furniture for the nursery.

We’ve done the main things we needed to but still have the finishing touches to get done. But we decided we needed to get out of the house with Alfie as he’s been cooped up indoors far too much this month! We took him bowling for the first time last weekend, followed by a lovely lunch at TGI’s which was lovely. Hopefully we’ll get in a couple more family days out before the baby arrives!

Next month I expect my Times to Treasure post is going to be filled with lots of baby spam and gushing about my our wonderful new baby!
