2017 seems to be the year for weddings for me! I have not 1, not 2, but SIX weddings to attend this year! Yes, six!! It’s a mix of all day guests and evening reception guests, but each one requires a carefully thought-out wedding outfit, plus accessories, plus shoes, which can be expensive. Luckily, I’ve been sent some lovely items to review from JD Williams that are just perfect for said weddings!
I’ve already been to three weddings so far – one all day, one as an evening guest and one was the UK reception for a destination wedding. For all of these I wore a dress I already had, but my next wedding is extra special as my big brother is getting married! Therefore I need an extra special outfit.
When JD Williams got in contact and said I could pick myself an outfit, I was overwhelmed with choice. Their website is easy to use, easy to navigate, and the choice is immense. It was really hard to decide what to get! In the end I went for a gorgeous skirt and shoes. I usually always wear dresses to weddings, so having a skirt to wear is something a bit different. I also have a huge array of shoes in all different colours – except black! So when I spotted this pair, I knew they’d be perfect.
After much deliberation, I picked this stunning Floral Print Prom Skirt. I was initially attracted to this skirt because of the grey colour – it’s a bit different to what I would usually go for, but the peach flowers make it nice and feminine. I also LOVED that it had pockets – as a mum it’s important to have somewhere to hide those all important items that you need a moments notice!
When the skirt arrived, it was every bit as gorgeous as I imagined. The material is so soft and silky, and it feels amazing to wear. The size is perfect, but it also has an elasticated bit at the back to give that extra stretch if needed (great for when you’ve stuffed yourself full of wedding food!) The skirt has a layer of netting underneath to really give it some shape, and I loved how it flowed! The colours are just gorgeous together, and really make for a statement outfit.
I teamed the skirt with a simple black cami that I already owned. I wanted to go for something understated to really emphasise the stunning skirt. You could then add a grey or pink pashmina or little cardi to cover up a bit if it was chilly on the day. I also added a black fascinator – it used to belong to my nan, who wore it on my wedding day and I think it really add a little extra something to the outfit.
Finally, we had the shoes! Looking at the photo online I expected the shoes to be satin, but they were actually suede. The brooch detail on the front add a little something special. Because of the gold detailing, I decided to wear a gold necklace to compliment it.
We went to a gorgeous little field at the back of my parents house to take some photos of the outfit, and I think it provided the perfect backdrop. I walked to the field in my full outfit, and it was so comfy! As a mum who is often seen running around after a two year old at these events, I was excited to have an outfit that was versatile, easy to move in and comfortable. The shoes were pretty comfy, my feet were still in tip top condition after wearing them and walking around in them for a few hours, which I was surprised about as I never usually wear pointy shoes as I find them uncomfortable. I don’t think I’d last a whole day in them, but that’s not unusual, I always pack a pair of flats for the dance floor anyway. I was slightly concerned about ruining them by walking on a field, but was pleasantly surprised with how easy to clean they are. The wedding I am attending next is outdoors, so I need a pair of shoes that are going to be able to withstand the great outdoors.
I absolutely love this outfit, and can’t wait to wear it to the upcoming wedding!
What’s your favourite thing to wear to a wedding? Do you always buy a new outfit, or go for an old faithful?
