Since we found out that we are having another boy, I haven’t bought a single thing for this baby. Not one thing! I did buy a cute little cardigan before we found out the sex, but as we already have one boy, we have found that we don’t actually need to buy anything for this baby. We have tons of clothes, all the baby furniture, swings, rockers, highchairs and toys we could need. It’s saving us a fortune! But, I have to admit I would like to buy some things that are on the “nice to have” list. Not essentials, but things that for a second baby, it’s nice to treat ourselves to. So this is my wishlist for baby number two:
I really wanted a co-sleeper with Alfie, but they were so expensive that we just couldn’t afford to splash out on it. As we ended up bedsharing quite early on, I think we would have really benefited from this! I was very lucky to win a brand new Snuzpod after writing a letter to a baby magazine when Alfie was about 8 months old. He was too big to use it, so we decided to keep it in the loft ready for baby number two. I can’t wait to unpack it and set it up!
I first discovered this when I saw a review by Hello Archie and Quite Frankly She Said, and thought it looked absolutely brilliant! I had a touch lamp in Alfie’s nursery, but it was often too bright even on the lowest setting, and once I had turned it off, I had to stumble to the door in the pitch black to get back to my room. This looks fab because it’s portable, can be clipped to your clothes so you are still hands free, and omits a soft glow rather than a harsh light so promotes a better bedtime environment. At £40, it’s a bit pricey, but I think it will be one of those things that is a great baby buy! I also love the fact you can use it as a nightlight when your little one is older.
I love products from the Gro Company – their sleeping bags are the only ones I will use. So I was delighted to see another amazing product from them – Ollie the Owl. After hearing friends rave about sleep aids such as Ewan the Sheep, when I saw Ollie I knew this would be one that I wanted for the new baby! Not only does he look cute, but hopefully he will actually encourage the baby to sleep a little better than Alfie did!
4. Aden + Anais
I had a couple of these muslins with Alfie and they were my favourite! This time, I really want the big swaddles as I know I will use them for everything – swaddling, wiping up spit up, covering myself when feeding, a light blanket in the summer – the list is endless! Although more money than I’d usually spend, they are such good quality, they are definitely worth it. I’ve seen these really cute Disney inspired ones which I really want!
5. Changing bag
I had a BabyMel changing bag with Alfie which I loved – it had tons of pockets, a strap and handles, plenty of space and it looked pretty. The only drawback was it was difficult to hold when I was babywearing. This time round, I’d love a backpack. I’ve seen this gorgeous BabyMel one which I think would be amazing at holding all the stuff I need for baby AND Alfie, plus easy to carry and looks fabulous! You can also convert it and wear it different ways which would be super helpful.
6. Nursery makeover
Having been renting when we had Alfie, we were quite limited in what we could do in the nursery – no painting or putting things on the walls, and I found it hard to decorate. This time we have a lovely spare room just waiting to be painted, primped and perfected for the new baby. I have lots of ideas that I can’t wait to share with you….watch this space for a nursery update!
I had a Medela breast pump with Alfie, which was fantastic. It was easy to use, easy to take out and about and came with the great Calma teat bottles that meant we had no problems switching from breast to bottle and back again.
This time, I really wanted a double pump as I figured I’d have less time to express, so a double would be easier and quicker to use. I was delighted when Pumpables sent me this amazing Milk Genie double pump to review when baby arrives – it promises to be quiet, quick and efficient so I can’t wait to try it out!
8. Nursing clothes
When I first starting nursing Alfie, I found clothes a nightmare! I couldn’t get to grips with nursing vests, my nursing bras were uncomfortable and I dreaded getting dressed in the morning as I’d have to carefully consider which access gave me easy boob access. Then I discovered the amazing Can I Breastfeed In It facebook page, followed by Boob or Bust and ended up with bras that fit and clothes that were easily accessible. I have recently discovered a fab new online shop called Chico Jacks that does discreet nursing clothes. I love the look of them because you can easily wear them after you stop breastfeeding and no-one would know the difference! I’m also excited to review an amazing maternity/nursing bra I received from Hotmilk – their bras are not only practical, but look gorgeous too!
9. Milestone cards
I loved using my milestone cards with Alfie, and since he was born there have been so many different types flood on to the baby market. A few that I love include Pudding and Chops and Dios Designs. I also love the numbered baby grow vests you can get, like these ones from Matalan, and the milestone blanket, like this selection from Etsy to photograph your baby’s growth! I’ll definitely be investing in some kind of milestone momentum cards!
I’m sure by now you all know about my love of baby wearing! I am a huge fan of the Connecta, and also loved my Close Caboo when Alfie was tiny. This time round, I am excited to try a wrap and also see if there are any other sling makes I can get to grips with – I’d love to try out the new Integra Baby carrier that has recently launched! The new designs are amazing, and I’ve heard great things about it already.
So there we have my wishlist for baby number two! What was your greatest buy for a second (or subsequent) baby that you wouldn’t have thought about buying first time round, or couldn’t justify due to all the other essential baby paraphinalia you had to buy?
*Disclaimer: Some of these items I have been sent to review, all of which are clearly marked. The rest I have included just because I love the look of them*
