If you saw my post earlier this week, you will see that we have recently revealed some big news – I’m pregnant!! Baby Jones number 2 is on the way. I didn’t document my pregnancy with Alfie, as I didn’t start the blog until he was born, so I’m excited to document this one! It will be interesting to look back and see how it differs from my first pregnancy. I’m hoping to do an update every 4 weeks – starting with my first bump update – 12 weeks!
How Many Weeks Am I?
At the time of writing this, I am 14 weeks pregnant. When I had my dating scan last week, I was dated at 13+6 weeks.
Days Till Due Date
176 days (that doesn’t sound that far away!!)
Estimated Size of Baby
Baby is the size of a plum! He or she is 2.09 inches long and 0.49 ounces – although this for an average baby, so my baby could be more (or less, but probably more!)
My Weight Gain
With Alfie, I put on over three stone! It didn’t bother me in the slightest, and I lost the weight quickly (thank you breastfeeding!) but I’ll be interested to see how much I gain this time. Currently I’ve put on 4lbs.
Symptoms So Far
I’ve been really lucky in this pregnancy that I’ve not been too unwell. I have sickness and nauseous from about 3 weeks to 8 weeks. My sickness was mostly in the evenings, which meant it was easier to hide at work, but it meant that I was walking in the door and spending the evening hugging the toilet most nights! It was hard as Craig was left to do dinner every night, and then sort Alfie out for bed, but he was great and just got on with it with no (just a little bit of ) moaning. I’m glad it was short lived! I have also been lucky to not be as tired this time. I thought I’d be knackered being pregnant and running around after Alfie, but so far, so good! One thing that has started REALLY early this time is my baby brain! From almost the moment I got pregnant, my memory has been shocking. This has not been good when we were in the middle of moving – it took a while for me to remember/find where I’d packed things! It seems to be getting better, so I’m hoping it doesn’t go downhill again!
I had my booking in appointment at 8 weeks. It was pretty much the same as my first one with Alfie – they ask lots of questions about your history, as well as questions about your previous pregnancy and labour. It took about an hour to take all the notes, and then I was sent off with my maternity notes, a bounty pack and a urine sample pot! When I checked back over my notes that evening, I did notice a few things that were recorded wrong that I’ll need to double check at my next midwife appointment.
I’ve also had my 12 week scan! After a slightly stressful morning because we went to the wrong hospital (I’m blaming baby brain for that one!), we eventually made it to our scan and got to see our little baby! As anyone who’s had a scan knows, it’s quite nerve wracking. All sorts of things run through your mind – is there a baby in there, is it’s going to be healthy, is there going to be more than one?! But as soon as you see the little bean on the screen, your heart skips a beat and you get that overwhelming feeling of relief mixed with happiness. Thankfully everything went well, and we managed to get a photo (not as good as Alfie’s scan, but you can see a baby!)
My first craving was apples! Which funnily enough was also my first craving with Alfie! Really, it’s been fruit in general – apples, strawberries, grapes, oranges – anything except bananas which I still hate! I haven’t had too many aversions, mostly anything smelly (got a few weeks off changing nappies and emptying the bin for that one!)
My bump is bigger than I expected at this stage, and I’ve been in maternity clothes since 10 weeks! I’m still a bit wobbly so some of it is definitely old baby weight, but it’s big enough to look like a baby bump!
Any Stretch Marks?
No stretch marks yet, but I’m expecting my old stretch marks to appear again as I start to get bigger.
No movements yet – even when we had the scan, the baby was very lazy and hardly moved at all, so I’m expecting movements to be less than I had with Alfie.
My gut instinct is girl!
What I’ve Been Struggling With
So far, I’ve been feeling pretty good and haven’t really struggled with anything!
What I’ve Been Surprised About
How good I’ve been feeling! Compared to my first pregnancy, I’ve been feeling much better in this pregnancy. I don’t know if it’s because I just have to get on with it now I have Alfie, but I’ve definitely not had time to feel sorry for myself like I did in my first pregnancy!
Difference to First Pregnancy
So far, this pregnancy has been quite different to my first. There has been less sickness and tiredness, but more bad skin and spots! I’ve also popped out a lot earlier.
I have a midwife appointment in a few weeks for my 16 week check up. This will be the first time I’ve met my assigned midwife, and I’m hoping this time I’ll have the same one throughout my pregnancy as I didn’t with Alfie and I think it really made a difference. I also have an appointment booked with a vbac midwife due to my c-section with Alfie. I’m still not sure what will happen with regards to this birth, but I’m hoping this appointment will give me a clearer idea of my options. Then I’ve got my 20 week scan at the end of September! We have decided we are probably going to find out the sex of the baby this time round which I’m quite excited out!
Come back in 4 weeks for my 16 week update!
