This week Mrs Hinch hit one million followers on Instagram. This is something many blogger could only dream of, and she has done it in a mere matter of months. I started following her in August, when she had under 7k followers. It is crazy how quickly her account has grown, and how many people had been caught up in the hype that is Mrs Hinch and her Hinch Army.
If you’ve been living under a rock, and haven’t heard of Mrs Hinch, she is a normal girl from Essex who likes to clean, and in turn, likes to share her cleaning tips with her followers. She names her cleaning products and equipment, she uses catch phrases like “all the best” and “hinching” and her followers caused “Minkeh” to sell out nationwide and an urgent production of new ones had to be put in place. I’m by no means a cleaning fiend, but she has even got me caught up in the cleaning craze and my house has never been cleaner (don’t get me wrong, it’s still a tip as I have two kids, but it’s a lot cleaner than it used to be!!)
I was definitely drawn to Mrs Hinch because she is a fellow Essex girl, but also because her cleaning tips are so easy and simple. I can do odd bits around the house, without having to do a full deep clean if I don’t have time. I love watching her stories, and I honestly think she is so engaging to watch. Mrs Hinch has obviously captured the hearts of many around the UK (and possibly the world!!)
I didn’t think I could get more cleaning crazy than I did when I was nesting – it’s unusual for me to want to clean, let alone actually get on and do it, but somehow the engery Mrs Hinch shows just makes me want to get on my hands and knees and scrub! But scrub is what I’ve been doing! Our house is now a mix of a million different Zoflora smells and even Alfie loves get the mop out and whizzing it round the living room floor.
Unfortunately it’s also made me want to start redecorating my house! My stairs are wooden and painted white, and now look filthy so they need a good clean and repaint. The kitchen is literally falling apart – our sink needs replacing as it’s basically about to fall through the cupboard. Our bathroom isn’t too bad at the moment but I’ve always hated our shower as it’s a rainfall one so I can’t take the head off the wall to clean the bath or wall tiles properly! So when we redo the bathroom, the first thing we will be looking at is new showerhead and shower pumps at Pump Sales Direct.
The only downside to Mrs Hinch for me is that she doesn’t have any children, and trying to keep a house clean with children is a whole different ballgame. I also worry a bit about the amount of chemicals used and how safe/good they are for using around the children and also how environmentally friendly they are! But even if I didn’t follow her for cleaning ideas, I still follow her because she is so fun and engaging. I spied her at a local shopping centre recently, but didn’t realise it was her until I’d walked past but I wish I’d said hello! Her husband was being a typical Insta husband and taking shots of her for her Instagram stories.
The Mrs Hinch craze just goes to show how influencial Instagrammers can be today. I’m a blogger myself and even I’ve been sucked in by the hype! I hope Mrs Hinch is getting a lot of media help and advice because she is in a whole different ballgame to other Instagrammers who do this for a living so I hope she is making the most of it while she can!
Have you got caught up in the hype? My husband thinks I’m crazy but lots of my friends share my Hinch love! Do you love it or loathe it?
