Now you might think with Christmas coming up, getting fit is the last thing on my mind. Add to that the fact I’m 7 months pregnant and you probably think I’m crazy for even thinking about it! But I really do need to start planning on getting fit in 2018.
I will admit I haven’t done ANY exercise since Alfie was born nearly 2 and a half years ago. Actually, that’s a lie – I did one run when he was 12 weeks old and I was in so much pain around my c-section scar that it really put me off and I’ve been making excuses since then to not do anything. I was also lucky to lose a lot of weight by breastfeeding, so I kept kidding myself that I didn’t need to do anything. I wasn’t unhappy with my body, I accepted it for what it was, but I think it will be a different story after baby number 2. So I’m making a plan. A gentle way to ease myself back into exercise and getting fit and healthy once this baby has popped!
I know that having 2 kids will have had a huge effect on my body, so I need to start slow. I plan to do this by going swimming. I can’t think of a more gentle way to ease my body back into shape than by getting in the pool a couple of times a week, and just doing as many lengths as I can. I’ll need to prepare by getting myself a new swimsuit – the only one I own is a a maternity one from my pregnancy with Alfie! Getting a new suit that fits will definitely boost my confidence a bit and I might even be in a bikini by the summer! I think I’ll also get Craig some swimming trunks to try and encourage him to get back to some exercise too! Simply Swim do some great swimwear, so I know Craig won’t mind me picking something for him.
Build it up
I have a couple of work out dvds that have been collecting dust for years, so now might be the time to start using them. I loved doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred a few years back, so once I feel ready, I will give that a go. I also have a DVD that Craig bought for Christmas just after we got married – I was so outraged though that I never even used it!
Summer is Coming
Once the warmer weather hits, I’ll start thinking about getting outside and exercising in the fresh air. My neighbour has been going to our local park run, and it’s something that looks like an easy way to enjoy your exercise – it’s free, everyone is so encouraging, and you can go at your own pace so there’s no expectations or pressure. I did a few fun runs a couple of years ago for charity and they were brilliant, it’s definitely something I’d like to do again. I think it’s great to have something to work towards too, so I can book one and then that gives me an incentive!
Taking it Seriously
A few years ago Craig and I used to attend Essex Boot Camp. We absolutely loved it and both lost a lot of weight and were very fit and healthy. We stopped due to the cost and then when Alfie came along, it just didn’t work with timings and child care but I’d love to go back. A very good friend of ours runs some sessions, so I’d love to attend one of his sessions as he is so passionate about his job, it’s amazing to see. I also know he’d work me very hard! I know a few friends that have had great results with a personal trainer too, so that’s something I might look in to. I have to admit the social and fun side of bootcamp really appeals to me though!
My fitness goals for 2018 are mostly to be realistic. I don’t want to say I need to weigh x amount by the end of year. It’s more that I want to be healthy (which means keeping an eye on my diet more) and tone up. I’m conscious that my body shape has changed a lot with pregnancy so it’s all going to be about finding the new me and being comfortable in my new body. I wouldn’t say no to looking like this in a bikini again though…
