I love Autumn. The crisp days, the beautiful colours and the chiller evenings all make me go warm inside. With the cold creeping in, that means your wardrobe likely needs an update to lots of warm, snuggly clothes. I’m digging out my jumpers and jeggings, and putting on those cosy bed socks (mostly so I don’t have to put the heating on yet!) Most of my wardrobe last year was maternity, which means I get to update it again this year with some actual nice clothes that fit me for my body now!
As a new mum, my body has changed a lot in the past year. From being a mum of one and almost getting my shape back, my body was then put through the mill again being heavily pregnant with Henry. It’s a lot for one person to go through in a short pace of time, and it can be difficult to adjust to your new body shape. Add in to that the fact I’m breastfeeding too, which can take even more of a toll on your body. The one bonus of not having any clothes that fit, is I can rediscover my style and try new things. I’m usually a jeans and T-shirt sort of girl, and whilst it’s still the first thing I reach for if I’m just chilling at home with the kids, I want to try out new things and look a little less Mum and a little more Me.
I’ve recently bought some full length dungarees that I LOVE! They are so comfortable, practical with the kids but a bit more stylish than just jeans. Admittedly I felt a bit silly in them to begin with, but I’m trying to be more open minded and own my style! I’ve also got a pretty pinafore dress. Not so practical with the kids as it’s a bit short, but bung on some leggings and it’s a winner! This has taken me a bit more getting used to, and I’m still not too sure, but I’m excited to be trying something new!
Now I’ve got my outside wardrobe sorted, I need to start thinking about my underwear! As I had a C-section, I had to wear big knickers for a long time due to irritation on my scar – although I have worn them for a lot longer than I have needed to! So whilst I’m sorting out my autumn wardrobe, I’m going to treat myself to some new underwear too!
When you are a new mum, it can be hard to come to terms with your body changes. Things don’t fit like they did before and you’ll find bits have stretched and squished in a way you didn’t know possible! Add in to that breastfeeding as well, and you can wonder how you can reclaim your body! Well, I’m starting with some matching underwear! You don’t have to save the good stuff for a special occasion. I find slipping on a pretty bra and pair of knickers can boost my confidence so much, and as no one else can see them, you know you’re doing it for yourself and no one else! Simply Be have got a gorgeous range of lingerie in their AW18 range, which includes nursing bras! I’m fortunate now that I can get away with not wearing a nursing bra as Henry doesn’t feed as often, so it’s easy to just slip down the strap and whip a boob out without needing nursing clips. However, it’s great that a normal online shop like Simply Be has the option of nursing bras so you don’t have to go to a specialist retailer.
So my Autumn wardrobe is well on its way to being nicely stocked. Have you started yours yet?
