Baby Got Back

Hello! I’m back!  Welcome to my new site – you may notice I’ve made a few changes, the main one being I’ve gone self hosted.

I’ve been away for nearly 3 weeks now whilst I sorted my site out and took the HUGE step of going self hosted!  So what do you think, do you like?  It’s not too different, but I’m loving having my own web address now.  It makes me feel like a real professional.

I’ve changed the layout slightly, which hopefully is prettier and more user-friendly.  I LOVE my new photo header – showing off the beautiful countryside right on my doorstep.  It also shows my favourite way to transport Alfie – using my Zap print Connecta.  I took this photo especially for the blog, but I’m so pleased with how it came out! It’s now one of my favourite photos.

There are also featured images to show off the blog titles and subject.  I have put easy to find social media buttons, email subscription and a search bar on the side so you can use navigate your way around the site quickly.

Please do let me know what you think!  Feedback is very welcome. I want my readers to keep coming back and the way to do that is by the blog being easy to use.

I’m so glad I’ve made the move to self hosted, and it wasn’t that hard.  A blog post is on the way on how I did it and what I thought.  I’ll admit I’m by no means an expert, and I used the customer service team of my hosting site a LOT! But hopefully a guide might encourage others who want to make the move (Mrs Lighty, I’m looking at YOU!)

Alfie may have been sleeping on the job, but I’ve been busy!

What else have I been up to on my break?  Well, I’ve returned to work full time.  I’ve been back almost a month, and it mostly feels like I never left.  Working full time and being a mummy full time is HARD though.  I will have a post up on the blog soon about how it’s all working out.

So with my return to work, comes Alfie’s start at nursery.  After an iffy start where we had tears at drop off, and an overtired baby to deal with at bedtime, he seems to have adapted pretty well and is really happy – which makes Mummy and Daddy really happy!

We have also made a vow that we will use our time at the weekends more wisely, and make the most of the time we have together as a family.  I have made an epic spreadsheet of all our local (and not so local) attractions. We are planning on making our way through them and having lots of fun!

I’ve really missed blogging whilst I’ve been on my break.  I have still been writing in the background.  There are lots of posts ready for when my site was back up and running.  I’ve missed the interaction with fellow bloggers and readers on twitter and via link ups though.  I have been posting a bit on my social media accounts, especially Facebook and Instagram, but it can be hard when there isn’t any posts to share.

I did pick a good time to go though, as many bloggers have been quiet whilst away on holiday so I feel like I haven’t missed much, but I’ve missed it more than I thought I would, so I’m REALLY glad to be back.

I’m hoping this new website is a new start for me as a blogger, and a great opportunity to push forward and start to make something of it.  I’m looking forward to turning a hobby into something more, but whilst still having fun and writing about the things I love – namely my gorgeous Alfie boy.

So stayed tuned for lots of new exciting things happening on the blog soon – let me know what you think in the comments below, good and bad!  Constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome.

Alfie is loving his new Zoo, handmade by his clever grandad!

Much love,

Abi @ Something About Baby xx

    • Thank you 🙂 ha, I’m not sure how helpful it will be, you should know from the amount of messages you have from me! Maybe it can more of a “this is what went wrong that I didn’t know could” type post!!

  1. Well done to you, I moved after 6 months of blogging and never looked back. I moved again a few months ago to wordpress which I think is better than the Blog Engine I was on before. I hope you continue to learn and see the benefits of self hosted. #TwinklyTuesday

  2. Welcome back! Your blog looks great and I’ll be interested to see your story about going self-hosted. Nice to connect with another full time worker/mummy/blogger. We’re certainly not short of things to do are we? #twinklytuesday

  3. A massive well done on going self-hosted and your lovely shiny new web address is fab. It sounds like you have had a very busy month and I wish you loads of luck with the nursery. It gets easier as time ticks by I think. Blink, and it will be time for school. Thank you for linking up to the #DreamTeam xx
