Not Another New Year’s Resolution

1st January 2019. Time for all the New Year, New Me posts right? Yes and no. This is not another New Year’s Resolution, I promise. But this year is the year I need a kick up the bum with my health and fitness.
Last year I had a baby so my personal health and fitness was waaaaay down the list of important factors with a toddler and a newborn to worry about. The year before I was pregnant and having a pretty crappy time so it just wasn’t something I was interested in at all.

But 2019 is going to be my year. The year of me! I turn 30 in two months and then return to work the day after that (I know, good timing right?!) So I want to get a plan in place before I go back to work in the hope I will be well in to whatever plan I’m doing and so it will just be easy to continue the routine.

I need to start off easy. Something gentle to get me back on course and build up to a better health and fitness routine. I’ve got myself a new fitness tracker from BuddyBand2 Activity and Sleep Tracker which will track how active I am, and hopefully give me a kick up the bum to be more active and point out times when I should be moving a bit more. I am going to do a full review of this product in a few weeks time once I’ve given it a good try out.

I really want to get back in to running and doing something like Park Run which is a free, weekly organised run should be a great opportunity for me to join in with other runners on a set route. I’ll need to stay hydrated and energised whilst running, so I’m looking forward to trying out these vitamin waters from Upbeat Drinks – the blueberry and raspberry ones sounds delicious! I’ll also be munching on these scrummy Grenade Carb Killa bars as a great post run treat. With low sugar but high protein, these bars will be fab for providing a boost after an exercise session or as a snack during the day to get your chocolate fix (without feeling naughty!).

With all this exercise I’m going to be doing, I want to have the right kit to do it in! I have lots of great gym trousers and tops but definitely need a new pair of trainers to keep my feet comfy and safe whilst exercising. This is the perfect excuse for me to go shopping in the sales!! I’m also looking forward to trying out some new comfortable sports underwear – nothing worse than uncomfy knickers whilst you’re trying to run! SueMe are a responsibly sourced sportswear brand with a commitment to the environment at its core. SueMe has a range of performance focussed underwear, which is made from 95% Beech Tree pulp, creating a superiorly soft, comfortable and durable product that feels like a second skin. And for those cold mornings and evenings, this Buff DryFlx multi-functional head and neckwear is going to be the perfect accessory for early morning or late evening runs. Designed specifically for high intensity activities, the DryFlx range can be worn in all-weather conditions, with Tech Fleece fabric options available for colder climates. For optimal fit, DryFlx designs are 100% seamless, ensuring there is zero friction between the skin and fabric, resulting in increased breathability and unrivalled freedom of movement.

I also have a fitness dvd that I used to use before I had Alfie (and haven’t used since…) so I’m going to try really and get back in to that as it’s only 20 minutes and ideally I can do it in the evenings once the kids are in bed…
As much as I have good intentions to kick-start a new healthy lifestyle, being a busy mum of two, it can be hard to put a plan in place. I’m the type of person who needs a scheduled activity and a weekly meal plan to really stick to something. That’s why I’m hoping this Body Transformation Meal Plan Design book from Ultimate Performance is going to help me. I’m not looking for a diet – I’m looking for a lifestyle change so I’m hoping to follow the advice in this book to really install a new healthy outlook on food.

So, whilst I am starting this plan in the new year, it’s not a New Year’s Resolution. It’s a lifestyle change. We don’t have plan on any more children so I don’t have the excuse that I used after Alfie that there was no point exercising when I was going to be pregnant soon (which is a very poor excuse anyway!). I need to change my mindset, change my habits and change 2019 in to the year I start taking care of myself!
Wish me luck!!
