A couple of years ago I did a post with a list of Easter events in and around Essex and it was a HUGE hit! I didn’t do one last year as I’d just had Henry, so this year I’m determined to create a bumper list of Easter events happening around Essex – including Easter egg hunts, days out, and other activities to keep the kids amused during the Easter holidays!
We love all the events at Marsh Farm, and Easter is probably one of our favourites (after their amazing Christmas experience, of course…) This year have an egg-citing(!) event running from 6th – 22nd April. There will be a great Easter egg hunt, where you can meet the Easter bunny and grab a chocolate treat – and this year there is the addition of an Easter Grotto! Head to Wat Tyler Country Park in Pitsea for a self led Easter themed trail. Answer and find all the clues hidden around the park to win an egg. Just £4 a child, This takes place every morning during the Easter holidays between 11am until 1pm (excluding Bank Holidays). Call on 01268 208090 to book your time slot.
From the 19th – 22nd April, you can join the crew at Audley End Railway for a fabulous Easter special event. Take a trains into the woods to visit the Easter Bunny, receive a special treat and meet his other furry friends! There will also be a chance to join in a special Easter trail in the picnic area to spot all the animals, nests and eggs that are hidden around. Once you’ve completed it, you will earn a special Easter gift! There will also be various Easter crafts to get involved in.
Check out Hardie Park on Saturday 13th April from 11am to 3pm for the annual egg hunt – just £2.50! Great fun for all the family!
The bunny hunt at Lathcoats this year is sure to entertain the kids during the Easter holidays! From 6th to 20th April, there is a treat for those who finish the activity card (£3 per child). Join in the FREE outdoor Easter games, with face-painting on selected dates only.
Head down to RHS Garden Hyde Hall this Easter for some hopping good fun with The Rhyming Rabbit! Join in with the garden trail, searching for the Rhyming Rabbit and enjoy craft activities based on the picture book by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks. There will be various activities throughout the week including rabbit and spring crowns, animal bookmarks, cotton ball animals and air dry clay (craft activities have a small charge of £3 per child). There will be extra activities on Good Friday and other various days – check out the website for more information.
Maldon Promenade Park will be hosting a special Easter egg activity on Sunday 14 April. Scattered around the small park and maze are clues to an Easter riddle – find all the clues to reveal the answer and receive an Easter treat! The Easter Egg Hunt runs from 10:00am until 3:00pm and you can start at any time. The hunt takes on average of 15–30 minutes to complete. Entry price on the day is just £3.00 per child, each child that enters will receive an Easter Egg and a piece of fruit.
You can also take part in the Easter Egg Roll (this must be pre-booked) Children line up to race their eggs. The person whos egg crosses the finish line first, wins. This activity is divided into age groups and suitable for children 3 – 8s and it great fun. The first race starts at 11:00am. Entry is just £1.00 per child. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the race. Parents or guardians are allowed to assist younger children.
There will also be Easter crafts available free of charge.
The first Chocolate Festival at Cressing Temple Barns is taking place on Friday 19th April.
There will be a great array of chocolate related stalls, including luxury chocolate makers, cake decorators, vegan chocolate companies, low sugar alternatives and various drink makers that include chocolate. In addition to this there will be specific workshops and talks you can book onto throughout the day where you can learn about the History of Chocolate.
Fun for all the family at Mountfitchet Castle this Easter with a special Easter Egg hunt included in your visit! You will get to see the castle, the toy museum, dinosaur encounters AND enjoy the egg hunt from 6th – 22nd April.
For something a little different during the holidays, why not head to Colchester Castle to meet Flame the Dragon on Sunday 14 April! Discover more about mythical beats as you take park in the dragon trail and design your own creature in the craft area! There will also be a dragon egg hunt and you can help decorate the Castle Dragon mural! If you’re brave enough, you might even be able to meet the dragon himself…
Barleylands is a great place to spend a day during the Easter holidays. They promise to have a wonderful Easter spring event planned, but the details haven’t been published yet – check back for an update soon!
Explore the reserve to discover all the hidden eggs and then have a go at some Easter themed crafts. The Easter Bunny might even leave some delicious goodies behind! You must book in advance, but you can arrive at any time during the session. £7 per child on 20th and 21st April.
If you’re looking for a lovely little Easter egg hunt to join in this Easter, the gardens at Beth Chatto will be perfect! Explore the garden and see signs of spring as you hunt for the hidden eggs, then collect your Easter treat! This is a self-guided trail running every day throughout the Easter Holidays from 6th -26th April.
Adults £6.95; children £1.50 or FREE (3 children with every adult admission) if you book your tickets in advance online.
Join Bertie the Bunny on an extra special egg hunt amongst the steam trains at Epping Ongar Railway this year! Running on 19-22 April, you will join the train and find as many eggs as possible along the way, marking them on the activity sheet as you go. You can then hand this in to claim your Easter treat!
You can also check out the activity train where you can enjoy magic shows, balloon modelling and more during the journey! Also at North Weald, children young and old can enjoy having their faces painted between 10.30 and 15.00 (additional charge applies).
Head to Cressing Temple to join in this fantastic chocolate pizza making workshop, run by the amazing chocolatiers from the Chappel Chocolate House! In an hour long workshop you’ll find out how temper chocolate and then design and create your own chocolate pizza to take home! Children of any age can enjoy for only £12 a session. Experience some fun on the farm this Easter at Old McDonald’s Farm. Running their Easter event from 6th – 22nd April, you can expect to find magic shows, Easter egg hunt, appearances from the Easter bunny himself and Easter crafts! There will also be baby animal encounters, circus workshops and facepainting – and much much more!
For a fun day out with the kids, check out this charity event run by the Chelmsford Ladies Circle. Taking place on Easter Sunday at Hylands House, you and the family can spend the morning hunting for wooden bunnies around the estate and then claim your chocolatey prize. This is perfect for very young children and there’s lots to do in the park afterwards too!
Enjoy a family day full of fun at Layer Marney Tower on Easter Sunday. Toddlers can enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt while the older children can enjoy Egg and Spoon Races. Then there’s the Easter Quiz the whole family can enjoy. You can also climb the Tower, see the Exhibitions, visit the Tudor tombs in the church and finish the day with a cream tea in the Tea Room. One for older children, or perhaps just the adults in the family! The Roslin Beach Hotel are laying on a special Easter themed afternoon tea during 19-22 April – just £30pp!
Visit Wyevale Garden Centre between 5th and 28th April for the chance to have breakfast or tea with the EAster bunny! You’ll have the choice of a cooked breakfast or tea for both children and adults, followed by completing the EAster trail and meeting the Easter bunny! The children will also get to decorate an Easter treat. Great fun for all the family! We have been lucky enough to be invited along to the event, so will be doing a review of the event shortly!
Galleywood Heritage Centre will be hosting their annual Easter Bunny Hunt on 19th April this year. Explore the common to find the bunnies and then return your form to the centre to exchange for an Easter treat! There will be lots of family fun, including stalls, tombola and a BBQ.
