This Christmas is the baby’s first Christmas and I’m beyond excited! Henry is going to be 10 months so it will be a lot different to Alfie’s first Christmas when he was only 4 months old. I think he is going to love the lights, the tree (which I’m a little bit scared about putting up!), the food definitely and I also think he is going to love opening his presents! He might not be bothered about the actual present, but he will definitely love the wrapping paper!
I think the hardest thing with babies is buying them gifts that are going to last – they might not necessarily use it straight away, but it can be good to buy them gifts that will be useful in two, three or six months time. It’s been harder this year to buy things that we don’t already have but that will still get used with Henry being a second child. But here is my round up of great gifts for baby’s first Christmas!
I never had one of these with either baby, but it’s one thing I really wish I had! Perfect from about 6 months when baby is just starting to sit up but needs a little help, this can be a real life saver. This Red Kite one is a lovely design and will brighten up any room! Your baby will love looking at the bright colours, and also enjoy playing with the toy attachments. No more bumped heads when baby loses their balance and topples over!
One thing you are pretty much guaranteed to deal with during your baby’s first year is teething! Even before the pesky tooth pops through, your baby might suffer from sore gums or pain. So they will definitely need a teether! This bunny one from Belo and Me is so cute – a gorgeous mint colour, it’s a great shape for baby to hold and with the all over texture, perfect for relieving that teething pain. And as any parent knows, when a baby is teething, they are usually dribbling too! So this beautiful cloud dribble bib is just the thing to keep their clothes dry and mop up any excess dribble!
I love receiving hampers, and I think a hamper is the perfect gift for a new baby at Christmas. A newborn baby isn’t going to know what’s going on, but I think it’s always nice to get them something so a hamper is a great gift as it’s something lovely for baby packaged in a way mum will appreciate! This Little Love hamper from the Hamper Lounge contains a gorgeous vest, hat and cute little teddy for baby to snuggle. My readers have also been offered a 10% discount with the code SAB10.
One thing a baby is guaranteed to need in the winter is a snuggly warm blanket – and you won’t get more snuggly and warm than a handmade crocheted blanket. Cora makes the most gorgeous items and they are perfect for that something a bit extra special this Christmas.
I’m always on the look out for clothes which are bright and funky and a bit different for Henry. I find that high street stores can be a bit unimaginative when it comes to boys clothes so I was delighted when I discovered Maxomorra clothing from Babipur. There are so many lovely designs to choose from and the quality is brilliant! These would make a great addition to any stylish baby’s wardrobe this Christmas. Maxomorra is also ethnically made from organic cotton, so you’re also doing your but for the environment.
Every child I know loves bubbles! They’re such a fun, cheap way to entertain a child of any age which means a bubble machine is a brilliant gift for babies under one as it’s something that they will love for a very long time! I love this whale Bubble machine from Early Learning Centre. I bought this in the sales last year so I don’t think they make it anymore – however they do make this fish one which is very similar!
I’ve recently started buying wooden toys – I feel they are more open ended for imaginative play and therefore last longer! We went through a phase of buying Alfie toys which only really lasted him 6 months or so before he got bored or grew out of them. With Henry, I’d like to focus on toys which invite more imagination and therefore last longer – in terms of playing with them and the quality of the toys too. This is why I’m turning to brands like Grimm’s. They are good quality, ethically made toys which appeal to children of all ages. I think these are perfect to buy for babies under because they will get years and years of play out of them – at first it might just be a pretty ornament for your shelves, but then it will become something they can explore with their hands and mouths, then something they can build and stack, then as they grow older they can let their imagination run wild! We already have the 6 piece, and will be adding the 12 piece to our collection this Christmas!
Like a bubble machine, you can’t really go wrong with bath toys! Both my babies LOVE a bath! Henry especially adores having a splash, but most of our bath toys are aimed at Alfie’s age (who doesn’t like to share just yet!!) so I’ve got him these brilliant Oball bath toys (I especially love there is a turtle, as that is Henry’s nickname!) Bath toys are great from any age, so a brilliant gift for anyone under one.
I know this is a second clothing item on my list, but I ADORE Fred and Noah leggings! I am a huge fan of supporting small businesses, and I especially love this one because it was born and bred in Essex, like my boys! Fred and Noah do the cutest leggings, and I am starting to have a bit of an addiction. These are great for babies because they are unisex, comfy, excellent quality and build to last. I’ve had several second hand pairs that have been in great condition, and have recently bought some Christmas items from the outlet section and again, they are in perfect condition. If you’d like to buy some cool, unique leggings, please check out Fred and Noah! Also – follow them on Instagram. Their Instastories are the best!!
When Alfie was a baby, I started the tradition of a Christmas Eve box. I loved filling it with special items that would come out every Christmas – including a beautiful story book that we always read before bed. Now we have Henry, I wanted another story book for him that was just as good as Alfie’s, but different. Step in Wayne Dear. An uplifting story of courage and determination, A Big Cheer for Wayne Dear is all about family, friendship and togetherness and is just the perfect story for Christmas. A fabulous book from Sophie Morrell, this is the perfect addition to our Christmas Eve box for Henry. We love this book so much, we have one to give away for one lucky reader over on our Facebook page. However, if you aren’t lucky to win a copy, it is only £6 to buy from the website above.
If your baby is under 6 months for their first Christmas, this tummy time mat would be perfect for them. The soft padding allows baby to be comfortable and safely play while the moon-shaped cushion provides gentle tummy time support. There are also lots of fun features including a peek-a-boo mirror, crinkles, shiny fabric and a musical star which plays the original Baby Sensory tune.
If you want to get your baby a special keepsake for their first Christmas, this is surely the perfect gift. A beautiful special edition 50p piece featuring Flopsy Bunny packaged with a special edition book, your baby will love this wonderful gift as they grow. This would be a great gift for the grandparents or godparents who want to get a memorable present that will last for years to come.
That’s our round up of Baby’s First Christmas gifts – I hope I’ve given you some inspiration! I’d love to know if you buy any of these gifts included in this guide.
