With Mother’s Day just around the corner, you may be starting to think about what gifts and experiences to buy the wonderful ladies in your life. It may be your mum, your grandma, your sister, aunty, or best friend! Anyone who has had a positive influence on your life, or those of your children that you want to say thank you to. And I have the perfect gifts for you! I have put together a small selection of gifts, from the little things, to grand gestures, suitable for all budgets and all special people in your life! For transparency, everything marked with a * has been gifted to me for inclusion in this post, however I have not been paid to write this. Everything else is stuff I have bought or I have been bought that I love and think would be perfect for Mother’s Day!
The Little Things
Colouring Book and pencils
Every Mum I know is often a little bit stressed, a little bit frantic and a little bit crazy from time to time. We all lead busy lifestyles these days, be it busy being a stay at home mum with a gaggle of children to entertain, or trying to juggle being a working parent with the school run, play dates and dinner time! What better way to take some time to chill and exercise a bit of mindfulness than a sweary colouring in book and pencils! I love these books, as being creative is my favourite way to relax, and this is something you can do while the kids are doing their own creations, or on the train in to work, or during my lunch hour! The perfect way to sit down, not move and immerse yourself in a world of colour, concentration and creativity. The fact this one is full of sweary words makes it that bit more fun. Don’t forget the colouring pencils!! I bought this from The Works, and the pencils are from Amazon.
A Good Book
I have always been an avid reader, as well as a writer, but since having children I think I’ve managed about two full books in four years! Being at home makes it harder to read, so I’m trying to put my phone away and pull out a good book on my commute to work instead. I’m by no means an intellectual reader, but since having Amazon Prime, I’m able to select books I wouldn’t usually read, as well as quick chit lit that doesn’t challenge me too much after a long day at work. I’ve just spotted the Harry Potter books are on there, so I’ll definitely be working my way through them!
I love reading actual books though, so I’m hoping to get one or two this year for Mother’s Day! I’ve loved reading books from my fellow bloggers, such as Happy Mum, Happy Baby from Giovanna Fletcher, Hurrah for Gin, The Unmumsy Mum and I’m currently reading From Mum with Love by Louise Clarke, the writer of Mum of Boys and Mabel.
A SEKSY Perfume*
I think most women have a signature scent, and this can make perfume buying quite easy! I know my own mum has been wearing the same perfume for as long as I can remember, so it’s really easy to buy for her. I however, don’t have a favourite and love trying new ones! I’ve been sent this lovely scent from SEKSY and I was excited to try it out. Now I’m back at work, I can wear a perfume more regularly and this one is great as it’s light and not too strong. It also includes a little Swarovski crystal that can be added to your favourite jewellery, so it’s two gifts in one! A perfect little something for the favourite lady in your life.
Ada & Alfred Jumper
I’ve been lusting after a new Ada & Alfred jumper for months, ever since I got my first one just before Christmas. I wear it at least once a week, but to be honest if I could wear it every day, I would! It’s so comfy and soft, and washes really well. I’ve been dropping hints about a new jumper for aaaaages, but my husband is not that great at picking up on them! So I bought one as a gift to myself, because, why not….
I picked this amazing “Lioness” jumper and it’s as beautiful in person as it is on the website. Alex is a fellow blogger and works so hard on her small business producing these amazing products, so do go and check out the website. I’ve already got my eye on the lion cub tshirts for the boys….
Most mums I know love a good pamper at the spa, but it can be really difficult when you have children to find the time (and energy!) to organise a spa day! So, the next best thing is to have one at home! I know that this can be tough too, but if you can get your partner to do bath and bedtime with the kids, you might just be able to claim and hour or two to yourself to pamper to the max. This lovely Moroccan Hammam Spa gift set from VIE Healthcare includes Beldi Black Soap, Rhassoul Clay and Argan Oil, so you get a real spa experience. It also comes with an exfoliating kessa glove and ethically sourced coconut spoon. It’s a real treat for that special mum.
Links of London charm
Since having children, I don’t wear jewellery as much as I’d like to as it’s not very practical. Henry either ends up pulling at it and strangling me, or Alfie wants to wear it and I worry about it getting lost or broken! I would always wear my jewellery on special occasions (mainly without the kids!) but now I’m back at work, I have more opportunity to wear all my beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I am most excited about being able to wear my Links of London bracelet. Last year I was bought this gorgeous rose charm for Mother’s Day, and it was just the perfect charm for the occasion. It sits amongst my other gorgeous, meaningful charms, which is what I love about this bracelet. There really is a charm for every occasion, and it makes a great gift when anyone is stuck with what to buy me – I’ll always welcome more charms!
Push The Boat Out
Thames Boat Cruise*
If you really want to treat that special someone in your life, push the boat out – literally – and book a Thames Boat Cruise from Red Letter Days. I love that Red Letter Days can provide such a range of activities and experiences, from spa breaks, to theatre outings, to cocktail making and driving experiences. There really is something for everyone. We have done the Thames Boat Cruise before years ago and we really enjoyed it, so are looking forward to visiting again. I’ll have a full review up on the blog once we have visited it. Perhaps controversially, we aren’t taking the children with us, but to be honest, what better gift to give your mum than some “me” time – or in this case, a date day with my husband! I love taking the children to London and am a bit sad they can’t come with us, but equally it’s rare Craig and I get time on our own so we will definitely enjoy this and make the most of it.
Meal at Nag’s Head Brentwood
If you want to treat your mum to some time together rather than a gift, why not take her out for a special Sunday roast on Mother’s Day. We recently visited The Nag’s Head in Brentwood for my birthday, and had such a lovely time – check out my review here. The food was amazing, the service was friendly and the restaurant was a beautiful little place. It’s the perfect place to take your mum, be it just the two of you for a girly catch up, or invite all the family, the Nags Head will be able to accommodate you.
Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour
You may have seen we recently visited the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios in Watford for my 30th birthday. It’s somewhere I have wanted to go for ages and if you are a Harry Potter fan, it is a must! This is a great gift to give your mum/sister/friend, any Harry Potter fan really for a fab day out. I love to give and receive gifts that can be taken in the future as I think it prolongs the excitement of the gift – you get excited when you receive it and then that excitement continues as you wait for the day to arrive! I am going to do a full review of the studio tours shortly, so if you’re thinking of going, look out for my post!
I hope this post has given you a few ideas of things to consider buying that special woman in your life this Mother’s Day. Mum’s deserve spoiling all the time, but especially on Mother’s Day.
