This weekend was lovely because it was mostly just Mummy and Alfie! Daddy had a day and night out in London with his friends, so after we dropped him off at the station, it was just the two of us! I haven’t been very well over the weekend, but being ill cooped up inside with a toddler is a lot worse than carrying on and getting out the house!
I had lots of Christmas shopping to do, and I prefer to do it without Daddy so he doesn’t question everything I buy! We went over to Lakeside and first stop was a café for some lunch! Alfie was so good – I wasn’t feeling very well so couldn’t manage to eat anything so just had a cup of tea. Alfie had a great little lunchbox with a sandwich, sausage roll and yoghurt in it (it did come with a fruit smoothie drink, but he only has water so I kept that for myself!) He sat nicely and ate all his lunch, and was waving and smiling at all the other diners. A couple came over to me before they left and said thank you to Alfie for keeping them entertained with his cheeky smile!
We then went and did some Christmas shopping! All the toy stores were visited, so the kids of the family are done – I may have also bought a cheeky Christmas toy or two for Alfie (alright, they’re for me!) Alfie has also suddenly grown out of all his clothes! So I had to buy a completely new wardrobe. There was a Gap Outlet at Lakeside, and I was surprised how cheap the clothes were, so I managed to pick up most things I need from there. Then we popped to Asda to get his nursery clothes – I begrudge sending him in more expensive clothes as he’ll only come home covered in paint and dirt!! I’ve been desperate for a nice, big memory box for Alfie for ages. I’ve got a few, but they’re all quite small and just not big enough to hold all the stuff we need to. So I was very pleased when I came across a lovely box in TK Maxx – and for only £8!
Our next stop was IKEA! I only needed a bath mat and a few toys, but I love just having a wander through. However, it wasn’t so fun because Alfie wanted to walk but he kept running off. As I was on my own, trying to keep hold of him and steer the buggy was a nightmare, so he ended up in the Connecta – saved my stress levels once again! I had planned to do some clothes shopping, but we had been out for hours and Alfie was getting tired, so we decided to go home.
On Sunday, we had to hang around to wait to pick Daddy up from the station, and once we had, he came home and went straight to bed with a hangover! So I made some lunch for me and Alfie, then took him to our local mini zoo. We have an annual pass so it’s great to just be able to pop in for an hour or two without worrying about how much it’s going to cost. It’s great now Alfie can run around and look at things himself. He loved watching the wallabies eating their snack and even stroked a goat! He also tried to swim with the fishes unfortunately, now he’s discovered a new found love of climbing…
We had a lovely chilled evening, dinner, bath and then a play with some wonderful picture dominoes Alfie got for his birthday. He’s not quite got the hang of them yet, and he likes to just eat them (he’s teething and they’re hard wood!) but I’m hoping he’ll start to recognise the animals soon.
It’s been a wonderful weekend just the two of us, but it is hard work doing it on my own. The house looks like it’s exploded, I haven’t been able to keep on top of the chores like I usually would, but we had great fun this weekend and I wouldn’t change it!
