I love fireworks night, so was really excited that it was on a Saturday this year! However, the weekend started off badly when the husband woke up feeling ill. I’d had a sickness bug at the start of the week, so we assumed he had finally succumbed. He retreated to the bedroom and I shut the door to save Alfie and myself from any germs!
So it was just mummy and Alfie left to amuse ourselves. As it was bonfire night, I thought we’d have a go at making some pretty fireworks pictures. I’d seen an activity on Pinterest where you cut up a toilet roll tube to splay out like spider’s legs and then dip that in paint. It was quite simple and really easy for Alfie to do himself. I showed him how to dip it and then press it on the paper and he had a great time making pretty fireworks on the page. I luckily had some black card so the paint really stood out and looked like fireworks in the night sky.
Alfie then painted himself green so he was swiftly put in the bath! It was the first time we’d used these paints so i didn’t know how well they were going to wash off, but luckily they were really easy and we had no stains on the bath or the baby!!
We then pottered about for the rest of the afternoon, and Alfie had a late nap so he’d be awake for the fireworks that evening. As Craig wasn’t very well, we decided not to go to the big organised display that we had originally planned to visit.
Instead, we walked down to the local river and watched all the fireworks from around the town. We had a pretty good view and there were lots of different displays going on for us to watch.
Alfie was memorised by the fireworks to start with. I was saying ‘wow’ and ‘ooh’ at the exploding fireworks and he was copying me – it was very cute! At one point he was pointing and waving as the fireworks flew up in the air! He began to get bored after about 20 minutes though and as he was in the sling, snuggled in with his teddy and started to fall asleep. As it was so cold, we decided to set off home. Despite the late nap and the noisy fireworks, Alfie fell asleep almost immediately once we got jome which was a bonus!
On Sunday, Daddy was feeling better so we went out earlier in search of a pair of wellies for Alfie. As he has rather chubby legs, I have really been struggling to find some that fit him! We went to a few places and after a meltdown in Mothercare (probably because he was fed up of having his legs shoved into various types of shoes!) I gave up and decided his trainers will have to do! I have tried a few pairs of snow boots, but we had the same problem, so I’m not sure what we’re going to do when it gets really cold….
Once we’d had lunch, we went to our local farm for a look at the animals. Alfie loves going to this farm and he knows it better than we do!
He had a lovely play on the outdoor playground and then went to visit the sheep, who he loved talking to.
We saw the horse who unfortunately wasn’t that friendly and almost took Alfie’s fingers off! Then we went on a tractor ride which was very cold and bumpy but great fun.
We finished off our visit by going in the soft play. Alfie is getting really adventurous and whilst Mummy gets a bit nervous and follows him around, he’s more than happy to explore the toddler area on his own. Daddy however loves taking him in the big play area, and I could hear Alfie’s screeches of laughter from the ground! His favourite thing is the slide – I think Daddy enjoyed it too!
We then did a bit of colouring in the evening whilst we waited for our dinner to be cooked. We had a lovely weekend once again, a mix of chilled time and fun time which is always a great combination.
What did you all get up to this weekend?
