It only seems a few weeks since I posted my last bump update, but I’m now over 16 weeks pregnant! To be fair, it has only been 2 weeks because of how far along they dated me at my scan, but it has gone so quickly and I can’t quite believe I’m 4 months pregnant already. But at the same time, I can’t wait to be further along, have our 20 week scan and watch my bump grow and start to feel some movements! So without further ado – here is my bump update – 16 weeks!
How Many Weeks Am I?
At the time of writing this, I am 17 weeks pregnant.
Days Till Due Date
Estimated Size of Baby
Baby is the size of an avocado! He or she is 4.61 inches long and 3.5 ounces – although this for an average baby, so my baby could be more (or less, but probably more!)
My Weight Gain
I have gained 2lbs since my last update, so total weight gain is 6lbs. I think I bloated a lot in the beginning, as my bump and weight gain seem to have slowed down/evened out a bit!
Symptoms So Far
After saying that I was surprised I’d not had any tiredness, it has started to hit me now. I think we’ve just been really busy recently, and I’ve not been very good at getting any down time (need to put the phone away!!) so I need to get better at this! Now we have a new boiler, I’m going to try and enjoy a few hot baths with my hypnobirthing cd to relax and try to combat the exhaustion. Luckily, I’ve not had any other symptoms.
I had my first midwife appointment with my community midwife at 16 weeks. It was quite a quick appointment, but they did the usual take a urine sample, take my blood pressure and ask if I’d been having any problems. We also discussed my history with Alfie a little and booked in my anti-D appointment. I was also told I’d need to have the gestational diabetes test as Alfie was a large baby, so I need to get that booked in too.
Then I got to listen to the heartbeat! I love doing this as it reassures me that the baby is doing well and still in my tummy! I find the first half of pregnancy hard because you don’t get many signs that you are actually pregnant and I feel less pregnant this time than I did last time. But all is well and my next midwife appointment is at 26 weeks.
Last week I had my vbac (vaginal birth after caesarean) appointment with the specialist vbac midwife. This was an appointment to discuss what happened with my last labour, go through all my notes and discuss why I ended up having a C-section and then discuss the pros and cons of a vbac verse a caesarean. It was a brilliant appointment, and I came out feeling very positive about my labour. I will do a separate and more detailed post about what happened and what decision we came to.
It was brought up that I may need to take aspirin throughout my pregnancy due to previously having pre-eclampsia. I have been booked in with the consultant to discuss this in a few weeks. I also have my 20 week scan in 2 weeks!
I’ve not had any cravings yet, and my previous craving of apples seems to have been a coincidence as I’m not so keen now (still eating them, but not as much!) I’m back drinking tea (yay!) but seem to have an aversion to olives (boo!). I’m not surprised by that one as I went off them with Alfie as well – they are just too salty for my liking!
My bump seems to have gone down a bit in the last few weeks, and I think I was definitely more bloated at the beginning of pregnancy. I *think* it looks like a baby bump most days, rather than just a food baby! I am starting to think that it is different to my bump with Alfie – at first I thought it was the same, but as it gets bigger I do think it is a little different.
Any Stretch Marks?
My old stretch marks are starting to become more noticeable, but my friend bought me some gorgeous bump moisturiser, so I’m trying to use that every morning to help them a bit. I was completely rubbish in my first pregnancy, and I don’t really believe it works, but it makes my skin nice and soft so I can’t complain!
No movements yet – however when I first heard the heartbeat, the midwife said baby kicked the doppler and was wriggling around as she tried to find the heartbeat so I’m hoping it won’t be too long before I feel some movements.
I’m still sticking with girl – next update I can actually tell you!!
What I’ve Been Struggling With
Still feeling pretty good, tiredness is getting worse, but nothing unbearable at the moment.
What I’ve Been Surprised About
That I don’t yet feel pregnant. I sometimes completely forget I am (like when I ate cheese recently that I shouldn’t have…)
Difference to First Pregnancy
Same differences as last time really – crappy skin, popped out early and less sickness! Also lots more midwife/doctor appointments due to being classed as high risk.
I have a consultant appointment in 3 weeks to discuss if I need to take aspirin, and then we have our 20 week scan in 2 weeks! Still planning to find out the gender, and very excited about it!
Come back in 4 weeks for my 20 week update!
